TZERMIADO
Tzermiado is a mountain village in the Lassithi plain, at an altitude of 850 meters with a population of 637 inhabitants according to the 2011 census.
It is located 36 km west of Agios Nikolaos and 15 km south of Malia on the road that passes through Kera and Krasi.
The inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and the production of horticultural products, having next to them one of the best arable lands offered by the Lassithi plateau.
In the 1960s, there were over 500 watermills in the basin, of unparalleled beauty. Today, unfortunately, the machines took off, resulting in the disappearance of the windmills from the plateau.
Many ancient artifacts have been found in the village, such as pottery and hunting tools, dating to the Minoan and Roman eras, which were found in the Cronion Cave, located next to the village in a short distance, but also at the top "Karfi" at 1000 meters, where evidence of residence of the Minoan years were found.
